The Acting Method

We presents intensive acting technique workshops based on the “method” principles of Sanford Meissner and Ivana Chubbuck.

The Acting Method approach centres around finding the principles in method acting that helps each individual actor to create their own technique. These workshops entail foundation building, improvisational exercises and basic scene work designed  to develop the actor’s psychological flexibility, emotional depth and truthfulness. This aids an actor in perfecting his process to fully embody and commit to a character whether for film, television or stage.

No prior acting experience or training is required. Everyone, including experienced actors and non-actors alike, start together at the beginning. For the trained or working actor, letting go of preconceived notions and a willingness to approach this work with openness and honesty is required. You will not be learning a series of ‘tricks’ to add to an existing bag. Instead, you will build a foundation from which you act and  develop solid, positive, artistic habits.

What is Method Acting?

The “Method” refers to a range of training and rehearsal techniques that seek to encourage sincere and emotionally expressive performances, as formulated by a number of different theatre practitioners, principally in the United States, where it is among the most popular—and controversial—approaches to acting. These techniques are built on the Stanislavski’s “system” of the Russian actor and director Konstantin Stanislavski. Though many have contributed to the development of the Method, three teachers are associated with “having set the standard of its success,” though each emphasised different aspects of the approach. Lee Strasberg focussed on the psychological aspects,  Stella Adler on the the sociological aspects and Sanford Meisner’s approach was via the behavioural aspects.
